I can’t particularly say that I like heights, or being in enclosed spaces, so the first opportunity I had to go on the London Eye, I declined.
But a couple years later I returned to London with the goal to see London from a totally new perspective which the London Eye offers.
The capsules are quite large and have a maximum amount of people so that you don’t feel like sardines. There are windows everywhere (except on the floor) so you have unobstructed views over all of London. Some say you can see Windsor Castle on the (rare) clear and sunny days.
I took my “flight” on a cloudy and rainy day in September but was able to spot all the major landmarks in London. It was great to see St Pauls, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the train stations from such a height.
The flight takes about 30 minutes and you are steadily moving at a slow pace the whole time so you don’t get motion sickness. There are long lines usually, so I’d recommend buying tickets or vouchers in advance so you can skip the lines. For special occasions you can opt for a Champagne Flight which includes, well, a glass of champagne!
I highly recommend a flight on the London Eye for any visitor to London – whether it be a well-seasoned visitor (like myself) or for the first-timer. Really great way to see a new side of London!
